Endocrinology (Diabetes and Thyroid Disease)

Endocrinology is the field of medicine concerned with diseases of the endocrine system and their impacts on the body’s hormones. Diabetes is the most common endocrine disease. Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton (BID-Milton) has leading endocrinologists on its medical staff to evaluate, diagnose and treat endocrine diseases

Besides diabetes, common endocrine diseases include:

  • Adrenal insufficiency
  • Cushing’s disease
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Thyroid nodules

To help diabetics establish and maintain a healthy diet, BID-Milton offers a one-to-one nutrition counseling program on an outpatient basis with a registered dietitian. Appointments are available by calling (617) 313-1115.

Endocrinologist Manfred Ernesti, MD, also leads a free, Diabetes Learning Group to help with the day-to-day management of diabetes. The group meets the first Monday of every month (except holidays) at 6 pm in the hospital’s Nangeroni Education Center. Reservations are not required.
