Prostate Cancer Screening

When detected and treated at an early stage, prostate cancer is almost 100% curable

Milton Hospital will host free prostate cancer screenings for men on Tuesday, September 15, from 5 - 6 p.m., on the second floor of the hospital in the Brooks Wing.

According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, over 192,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009, and more than 27,000 men will die from the disease. Currently, prostate cancer affects one in six or approximately two million American men. When detected and treated at an early stage, prostate cancer is almost 100% curable, which calls attention to the importance of regular screenings.

Registration and advanced blood work is required for the screenings. Please call the Milton Hospital Community Education Line at 617-696-8810 to make an appointment. Participants are asked to have the blood work completed during the week of September 7 . Blood drawing may be completed on a walk-in basis in the Milton Hospital laboratory, located on the first floor of the hospital. No appointment is necessary for the blood drawing prior to the prostate screenings. Lab hours are Monday through Friday, 7am - 6pm, and Saturday, 7am - 12 noon.

In addition to the valuable screenings that Milton Hospital will be providing, it will also have its state-of-the-art da Vinci surgical robot on display. This surgical system enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures, such as prostatectomies, through very small incisions with unmatched precision. The da Vinci makes a surgeon's eyes ten times stronger, refines hand motions and makes smaller incisions, resulting in less pain, less blood loss, shorter recovery time and in many cases, better clinical outcomes for patients with prostate cancer.

Please call the Milton Hospital Community Education Line at 617-696-8810 with questions or to make an appointment.
