Milton Hospital's Main Laboratory Receives
Accreditation from College of American Pathologists
Milton, Mass. - Milton Hospital Main Laboratory has been awarded
an accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of
the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results
of a recent on-site inspection.
The laboratory's director was advised of this national recognition
and congratulated for providing excellent services. "We
are very pleased to receive full re-accreditation from the College
of American Pathologists," said Milton Hospital Chief of Pathology
Jon Keller, M.D. "With over one thousand detailed questions covering
every facet of laboratory performance, the inspection process represents
the "gold standard" of certification."
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960's,
is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more
stringent than the government's own inspection program.
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory's
records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years.
CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff's qualifications, the
laboratory's equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as
well as the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent
inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest
standard of care for the laboratory's patients. "Our staff
are extremely professional, diligent, and committed to serving the
community, which was reflected in their exemplary performance on
the inspection," Dr. Keller said.
Milton Hospital's laboratory delivered over 700,000 patient results
in 2004, an increase of 16 percent over 2003.
The College of American Pathologists is a medical society serving
nearly 16,000 physician members and the laboratory community throughout
the world.
