Milton Hospital offers ongoing community education programs designed to promote healthy lifestyles. Most lectures, screenings and workshops are free of charge although some require a nominal fee to offset the costs of materials or instructors.

ONGOING PROGRAMS

Diabetes Learning Group
Here's help for the day-to-day management of diabetes. Monthly topics deal with diet, exercise, blood sugar monitoring, stress and more. Join this workshop to learn the most up-to-date information on living with diabetes. Manfred Ernesti, M.D. Endocrinologist

CPR for the Healthcare Professional or Layperson
Learn emergency procedures for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and response to choking. Either course is completed in one four-hour session. (Re)certification by the American Heart Association upon successful completion. DATE: Healthcare Professional course held on the second Tuesday of each month; Layperson course held on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
TIME: 5-9 PM
COST: $50 payable to Milton Hospital; Pre-payment and pre-registration required. Cancellation policy: refunds given with notice of three business days.


Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a gentle, flowing progression of movements designed to calm the mind, relax the body, attain better balance and promote whole body health. In this six-week course, you'll learn the first third of the movements, which make up the form. You'll also learn related Chi Gung exercises as well as principles of relaxation and healthy posture. Blood Pressure Clinic
Come and have your blood pressure checked, then learn what it means from Cardiologist W. Kin Fung, M.D., as he answers many commonly asked questions about blood pressure. How does your blood pressure affect your overall health? What are the warning signs of blood pressure that may be getting out of control? How can your diet, level of exercise and stress affect your blood pressure?

Coaches' Safety Workshop
How do I recognize a potential concussion? What are the warning signs of dehydration? What's really the best way to stop bleeding? What else do I need to be concerned about? This lecture will prepare coaches of youth athletics to respond to a number of potential injuries that can strike an athlete at any moment. Join Milton Hospital Chief of Emergency Medicine Paul Paganelli, M.D., to learn about the most common threats to your athletes and how to handle them for the best outcome.

Would You Recognize a Stroke?
The onset of stroke is often subtle. Would you recognize the symptoms? Milton Hospital Clinical Educator Phillipa Breslin, RN, and Intensive Care Unit Manager Ellen Lanza, RN, will outline the warning signs of stroke, as well as prevention strategies. The lecture will also cover a discussion of Milton Hospital's rapid stroke response program and telemedicine technology.
