Preparing for Elective Surgical Procedures
Your physician will make initial arrangements for your preadmission
testing appointment and your surgery. Because this appointment
is a critical component of the preadmission process, it is important
to make every effort to keep it. Shortly before this meeting,
an admitting representative will call you to obtain all information
pertinent to your hospitalization. If you need financial counseling,
you will be referred at this time.
To help us better serve you, please bring the following materials
to your preadmission interview:
- Picture identification (driver's license)
- Any papers given to you by your physician's office that may
include doctor's orders or laboratory slips
- A list of medications that you are taking, including dosage
and frequency
- Your insurance cards, forms, and any other insurance related
information
- Your Advanced Directive (health care proxy), if applicable
Our staff is trained to make your hospitalization comfortable.
Your nurse can address any questions or concerns you may have.
Basic items are provided for your hospital stay. If you have forgotten
something, many necessities are available in the hospital's gift
shop, located on the ground floor. Please be sure to label items
that are essential to your comfort, such as eyeglasses or dentures,
so we can help you easily locate and identify them. Valuables
such as jewelry or large amounts of cash are best left at home
while you are hospitalized. Please remember that the hospital
cannot be responsible for personal items brought to the hospital
by you or your family.
Preadmission Testing
Our preadmission testing program is designed to ensure that
all patients receive the highest quality of care. This evaluation
takes place before the day of your procedure and includes any
tests ordered by your physician, as well as an interview with
a registered nurse and anesthesiologist. The preadmission testing
staff is responsible for coordinating the essential medical information
and reviewing results from any tests you may have had. Please
allow approximately two hours for this comprehensive process.
If you have special needs or special requests, you may let us
know about them during the preadmission process.
