Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, located in the Longwood section of Boston near Fenway Park, is a not-for-profit, 642-bed academic medical center and major teaching and research affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Each year, the medical center cares for about 40,000 inpatients, including 5,000 births, as well as about 500,000 outpatients. BIDMC is ranked third in National Institute of Health funding for research among independent hospitals nationwide.
